Thumb and Index Finger Grip for Tools

The thumb and index grip places the lower portion of tool handle between the thumb and index fingers, as the upper portion of the tool handle rests in the web space of the hand.

When using utensils such as forks and spoons, it positions the thumb, index, and middle fingers around the tool handle promoting a natural and comfortable grip pattern for eating.

Alternatively, this thumb and index grip may be used with tongs or chopsticks. When using chopsticks or tongs for self feeding or alternatively for therapeutic use such as strengthening the pincer grasp, the application will be slightly different. The tool ends of the chopsticks or tongs will need to be inserted into the loops of the index and thumb. If using the Tri-Loop for this application, please consider sizing up the Tri-Loop for optimal comfort.

The wonderful thing about the Tri-Loop in this Application:

It easily adapts to a wide variety of fork and spoon handles, as well as tongs and chopsticks.

Tri-Loop Goal When Being Used for Eating:

Offer an alternative to the universal cuff, providing a more natural and refined grip for holding utensils.

Instructions for Use:

  • When using with forks and spoons, insert tool into the middle triangular space of Tri-Loop
  • When using with chopsticks or tongs, place tool ends into the thumb and index finger loops
  • Insert thumb, index, and middle fingers into respective loops
  • Move Tri-Loop up or down on fingers to promote function and comfort
